3.2 Preparing the Joint

1. Cut and Deburr Pipes: Cut copper pipes to the required length. Use a deburring tool to remove any burrs from the inside and outside edges of the pipe ends.

4. Soldering Procedure

Once the joint is prepared, proceed with the soldering process:

1. सांधे गरम करा: Using your torch, apply heat evenly around the circumference of the fitting, focusing on the base of the fitting where the pipe enters. Keep the flame moving to avoid overheating one spot.
2. Test for Temperature: Periodically touch the AIM Aquasol solder wire to the joint opposite the flame. When the pipe and fitting reach the correct temperature, the solder will melt and be drawn into the joint by capillary action. Do not melt the solder directly with the flame.

• Solder Not Flowing: This usually indicates insufficient heat or improperly cleaned surfaces. Ensure the joint is heated evenly to the correct temperature and that all surfaces are bright and clean before applying flux.
• Cold Joint (Dull, Lumpy Solder): A cold joint occurs when the joint was not heated sufficiently or was disturbed during cooling. Reheat the joint, apply a small amount of fresh flux, and re-solder. Allow to cool undisturbed.
• Leaking Joint: A leak often results from an incomplete solder fill or a cold joint. Drain the system, clean the joint thoroughly, reapply flux, and re-solder, ensuring full capillary action.
• Excessive Solder Buildup: This can happen if too much solder is applied or if the joint is overheated. While not always detrimental to joint integrity, it can be unsightly. Practice proper solder application technique.
